I looked at your website out of curiosity, See my madien name is VanMierlo. I live in Idaho and never really new my dad. Was wondering if I could find out the deffenition of my last name. Kinda curios about my family history. I reolize that there is most likely no relation but would appreciate it if you could tell me the meaning of my name.
Hi Crystal
This branch of the Van Mierlo’s came over to Canada in the early 1900’s from Holland. About the only thing that I can tell you about the meaning of your name is that it is Dutch.
From what I was told in High School, “Van” means from or of the … and Mierlo was the name of the estate, so people who lived or woked on that estate were Van Mierlo.
Alice & I are working hard. pretty much at least 6 days a week.
But, for me at least, business is fun.
What would get everybody on and contibuting to this Blog .. whatever they want ??
The big laugh here in Sunny Alberta is how the CBC and all of the other news outlets have “lost it”. They interpret what they “want” as the facts. Everybody I know said there was no way any of the oppositipn looked even slightly capable. Even if we wanted to boot Ed, he was going to get his majority. The ops were working harder for the Conservtives then Ed was.
I just happen to stumble upon this website and would like to respond to Crystal (from Idaho) who left a message on November of 2007. Crystal was looking for the meaning of the name “Van Mierlo”. Well, I can tel you that Van means from as explained in an earlier message but the Mierlo portion is actually a town in Holland. The town Mierlo is located in the eastern part of the Province called Noord Brabant and is near the city of Eindhoven. I immigrated from Holland in 1976 and have been back a number of times. I have been in the town of Mierlo. Actually, I will be going back to my “home” country again during march break. My grandfather when he was alive could remember that some of his relatives moved to Canada in the early 1900’s so I’m likely related to some of the Van Mierlo’s near North Bay, Ontario. I have an uncle who visited some Van Mierlo’s in that area when he was in Canada on vacation but that must be at least 25 years ago. Anyway, if anyone has any comments I would be very interested to hear them. thanks,
The uncle who visited may be Bert Teunnisen. Alice has contacted him and has the correct spelling.
Bert is married to a sister of our grandfather !!
So his wife is Dad’s Cousin.
If that is correct .. then this Tony may be a second cousin … or something like that.
I remember the visit of your Uncle to my Father and some of his cousins. I believe that the people that visited my Dad and Mother were Dad’s first cousins. The family resemblance was quite strong. Somewhere there are pcitures from that visit.
For some reason, I decided to take a look for information about Tony tonight and somehow I stumbled across this only to find a posting from my sis on here – even with her slow connection and everything else on the go. Amazing!
Anyways, to update everyone else out there, here in Calgary things are going alright. My son Garrett is officially signed up for Spanish kindergarten and Danica is getting her 13 through 22 month teeth all at once (8 in all)walking and running and trying headstands and doing well at the dayhome. They both swim and Garrett is taking gymnastics and working on learning to skate as well. I am job searching after being on mat leave and the store closed my department that I managed. Terry is still with CAlgary Police service and enjoying his new district – closer to home and he can take part in preschool activities a bit even while working!
Enough for my first entry.
I just read some of the latest messages and thought to give you an update. Bert Teunnissen is not my uncle’s name. My uncle’s name is Jo Van Mierlo, he was here 25 or so years ago. I’m not sure who Bert is??? All this stuff is kind of interesting though, good thing we have the internet, what would we do without it?
THIS IS A TEST. HELLO, CAN YOU HEAR ME? IS ANYONE OUT THERE? FOR GOD SAKES, ANSWER ME I AM LOST IN A COMPUTERIZED MAZE, CONFUSED, ALONE.
Yes, I can hear you. You are not alone.
John

Brian, I would like to see the pictures which you think exist. I would be able to recognize my uncle if he is in any of them.
